Check out 45+ Burnaby restaurants offering special multi-course menus all March long!
After a slew of closures in Vancouver’s restaurant scene, it’s refreshing to see a new establishment worth getting excited about.
Yup, Brentwood is finally getting its first traditional Hong Kong Cafe & Eatery.
Happy Valley Food City has taken over the former Swiss Chalet on Lougheed, offering two concepts in one space: HV Cafe and HV Wonder House. Both concepts recently soft-opened last week.
The Cafe side offers classic Hong Kong-style dishes such as seafood chow mein, baked pork chop on rice, shredded chicken and salty fish fried rice, and the quintessential iced lemon tea.
If you’re in the mood for breakfast, the Cafe also serves Hong Kong-style breakfast items and is open 8 AM to 11:30 PM daily.
On the other side of the restaurant, Wonder House serves traditional dim sum during the day and specialty BBQ skewers and beer in the evenings.

This means those in the Brentwood & Lougheed area who crave Chinese BBQ skewers won’t need to head to Richmond or Kingsway any longer.

While the interior of the restaurant retains much of the shell of the previous Swiss Chalet, new neon signs hang from the ceiling with quirky sayings such as “This must be the place” and “Stop thinking.”

A large money tree placed in the middle of the dining area also adds a unique touch to the decor.
Although the new establishment has received mixed reviews, with some customers complaining about slow service, it’s important to keep in mind that it is still in the soft opening phase.
Happy Valley Food City is sure to take customer feedback into account and make the necessary adjustments to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all patrons.
