Central Richmond is packed with both small and large grocery stores, ranging from T&T Supermarket to Rice World, Walmart, Supermarket 2000, and many others.
Despite the crowded market, it seems there’s room for one more, as 88 Supermarket is set to open its first Richmond outpost.
A “Coming Soon” banner for this Asian supermarket has been spotted by our community member (@yellywyw) below the Rothewood Academy logo.
It will occupy the former Fabricana unit on Garden City Road, beside the Academy.
88 Supermarket, which opened its first store in Vancouver in 2006, slightly differs from the more Chinese-focused T&T and Rice World.
Instead, it leans towards the Southeast Asian market, offering a wider selection of Vietnamese and Filipino items.
But you’ll still find their aisles filled with all sort of Asian kitchen condiments, sauces, instant noodles, snacks, fruits, vegetables, meat, and seafood.
Recently, they renovated Killarney Market—famously featured in Michael Bublé’s “Haven’t Met You Yet” music video.
The updated space now includes 88 Kitchen, which offers a variety of affordable food options like rice bowls, sushi, hot food, and a banh mi bar.

The new Richmond location will be the brand’s third in Metro Vancouver.
Residents near Garden City will have plenty of choices, with Walmart, Rice World, Supermarket 2000, and T&T Supermarket all close by for their grocery needs.
