Yaletown Burger Spot and Its Hidden Speakeasy Have Closed After 8 Years

Another Yaletown spot is gone, and this time it is taking a hidden bar down with it.

Hundy, the popular burger joint along Homer Street, has closed its doors earlier this month after about eight years, and its speakeasy The Stock Room is gone too.

Hundy was known for its no-fuss lineup of smash burgers, fried chicken sandwiches, fries, and poutine.

But the real draw for a lot of people was what was hiding behind it.

The Stock Room was a speakeasy-style cocktail bar tucked in the back of the restaurant.

Both are now gone.

The closure is part of a broader shakeup at Freehouse Collective, the hospitality group formerly known as the Donnelly Group.

If that name sounds familiar, it is because we just covered the closure of another one of their spots.

Isabelle’s, the after-supper club on Hamilton Street in Yaletown, shut down in late January after nearly four years.

Freehouse Collective also operates a number of other well-known venues around the city, including Sing Sing, Lamplighter, BrassFish, and Three Brits.

The company filed for creditors protection back in 2023, and it appears the restructuring is still playing out across their portfolio.

Hundy originally started back in 2018 as a late-night burger concept operating out of Kitsilano before eventually moving into its own dedicated space in Yaletown.

Eight years is a solid run for any restaurant in this city, especially one that carved out a genuine following.

As for what comes next, the space has already been sold to The Key Collection, a newer Vancouver hospitality group that opened the upscale seafood concept Osetra on West Georgia Street late last year.

It is another shift for Yaletown, a neighbourhood that has seen plenty of turnover in recent years.

Hundy now joins a growing list of recently closed food and drink spots in Vancouver, including Lumiere Cafe Greektown, Kokoro Mazesoba in Kitsilano, and Rori Momo.
