A coming soon sign has gone up in a recently vacated space on Davie Street, and it points to something a little different.
Aura, described as a modern Vietnamese cuisine and bar, is moving into 781 Davie Street in downtown Vancouver.
The space was previously home to Rori Momo, a Korean Japanese restaurant that closed on January 15 after nearly seven years in business.
A Noms Mag community member first spotted the signage and tipped us off, and we walked by to confirm.
The window wrap features the Aura logo alongside large images of what appear to be Vietnamese seafood curry dishes, with the words “Coming Soon” at the top.
At the bottom of the signage, a small logo reads “Powered by Khanh Express.”
Khanh Express is an existing Vietnamese restaurant with two locations in Vancouver, one at Beatty Street downtown and another at East Hastings Street in Strathcona.
The pho-focused spots are known for traditional Vietnamese comfort food, with a menu that covers pho, banh mi, vermicelli bowls, and rice plates.
The Beatty Street location in particular has built a strong local following, with hundreds of reviews and a reputation for solid bowls of pho at a fair price.
Aura appears to be a step up from the casual pho shop model.
The branding leans upscale, with a sleek gold and black logo and the “Modern Vietnamese Cuisine and Bar” tagline suggesting a sit-down dining and cocktail experience.
The images on the signage hint at a menu that could include seafood-forward Vietnamese dishes, though nothing has been confirmed.
No opening date has been announced, and no social media accounts or website appear to be live yet.
Aura now joins other upcoming food spots in Vancouver like Turf Main Street, Eggstatic Main Street, and The Venti Davie.
