New Handmade Dumpling Shop Soft Opens in Burnaby With Over 20 Flavours

A new dumpling spot has quietly opened on Kingsway, and they are wrapping every single order by hand right at the counter.

Baohaus Dumplings & Drinks has soft-opened earlier this month at 6281 Kingsway in Burnaby, taking over the former Xing Fu Tang unit.

We visited anonymously after spotting our friend and local food creator @deannawoo stopped by.

The space is clean and minimal with white walls, a visible dumpling-making station behind glass, and a row of lucky cats on the counter.

There is no traditional ordering counter here.

Instead, you place your order through a self-order kiosk near the entrance.

The menu is surprisingly deep for a dumpling shop.

There are over 20 dumpling flavours organized by protein.

Grass-fed beef options include Beef & Carrot Corn, Beef & Whole Shrimp, Curry Beef, Garden-Style Beef, All-Beef, Juicy Beef & Cabbage, and Beef & Pear.

Pork options include Juicy Pork & Whole Shrimp, Pork & Celery, Pork & Cilantro, Pork & Fragrant Shiitake, Pork & Cabbage, Pork & Red Onion, Pork & Seaweed, and Pork & Roasted Pepper.

There are also chicken, lamb, and a vegetarian option called Garden Harmony Dumplings.

Most of the dumplings come in three sizes – 2, 8 and 16 – and the prices are dependent on the filling.

One staff member wraps each dumpling by hand at the end of the counter, made to order.

We ordered the Beef & Carrot Corn, the Pork & Fragrant Shiitake, and the Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte which was on special for just $4.

The Beef & Carrot Corn dumplings come wrapped in a vibrant pink dough. According to the menu, the colour comes from naturally coloured red yeast rice, not artificial colouring.

The Pork & Fragrant Shiitake came in a standard white wrapper.

Both were decent but not a standout.

The matcha strawberry drink is a pass if you are a moderate matcha drinker.

Surprisingly, Baohaus also has a full coffee program with locally roasted espresso.

Their A-frame sidewalk sign reads “this dumpling shop has really good coffee” with dark chocolate and caramel notes.

Classic drinks include espresso, americano, cortado, and cappuccino.

Baohaus joins a growing list of new food spots that have recently opened in Burnaby, including Money Food Ent., Matcha Tea Lab, and Panda Pancakes.
