Popular Richmond Coffee Roaster Opens New Vancouver Coffee Bar

Downtown coffee snobs no longer have to drive all the way out to Richmond for their fix.

Moving Coffee, one of the top roasters in the city, has opened a coffee bar right in the middle of Yaletown.

You will find it tucked inside the Leisure Center at 950 Homer Street, the design-and-retail lounge that handed a corner of its floor over to the roaster.

The space soft opened on June 12, and the partnership is billed as synergy in design and craft, which tracks the second you are standing in it.

We stopped by on a recent weekday afternoon, right before the bar closed for the day.

The coffee bar takes up a portion of the retail store, with the area turned into seating and tables where you can sit, work, and catch the FIFA World Cup matches playing on the screen.

If you already know Moving Coffee, you know the name carries weight with locals and coffee nerds alike.

Founder Edmond has been Q-Grader certified since 2012, and he built the roastery on a strict, precise philosophy, chasing balance, cleanliness, and sweetness instead of the old dark and bitter approach.

That rigor is the whole reason people have been making the drive out to Richmond in the first place.

The drink menu here is split into two columns.

Black covers the espresso drinks and drip coffee, while White covers everything with milk, like the flat white and the cortado.

Pour-overs and tasting flights are on there too, the kind of menu that rewards you for slowing down.

Bags of Moving Coffee’s roasted beans line the bar for purchase, including their new lab series for people who take their home brewing seriously.

We got the sparkling espresso, and it was exactly the right call for a hot afternoon.

Refreshing and fizzy, cold enough to wake you back up, with the caffeine kick we needed to keep walking the downtown core.

For coffee people who live and work downtown, this is the headline.

You no longer have to head all the way out to Richmond to get your hands on Moving Coffee, it is FINALLY in the core.

Moving Coffee’s downtown bar joins a wave of recently opened Vancouver food spots like Pho Anh Vu on Kingsway, Dave’s Hot Chicken, and Emeri Matcha.
