The Mount Pleasant unit that spent two years selling dick-shaped waffles (yes, you read that right) has been dark since March 2024.
On September 5, it has now transformed into a spot pouring ceremonial matcha.
Ninth Cup is the newest matcha shop in Vancouver.
It is the first storefront for a team that started in November 2025 as a pop-up and passion project built around one thing.

I stopped by anonymously to see what they are all about.
The room is simple and welcoming.
Four small white tables, a wall of photo cards showing every drink, a display fridge, and a big floor mirror for the selfies that are clearly going to happen here.

The menu is short on purpose.
Matcha and hojicha lattes, both $8, sit at the top, and the matcha side lists jasmine, strawberry and blueberry versions built on house-made purees, with the strawberry one made from organic BC berries.
The hojicha side runs the same fruit lineup, and a seasonal board adds a pineapple series, a whipped honey series and a matcha float.

The board says each matcha latte gets 4 grams of first harvest ceremonial matcha, lightly sweetened with simple syrup, and dairy, oat and soy are all included at no extra charge.
I kept it to the classic iced matcha latte with regular milk.
For me, it landed less sweet than other spots, but the earthy and umami matcha notes still came through.

Unlike other recently opened matcha cafes in the area, Ninth Cup keeps things simple and does not run a menu of different matcha powders to choose from.
There is one matcha, one hojicha, and the fruit and seasonal versions on top.
That is good news for anyone who just wants a matcha latte without a tasting flight of decisions first.
Ninth Cup now joins the list of recently opened food spots in Vancouver like Duchess Cafe, Honest to Pete Downtown, and Zab Bite Express.
