The bowl is 30 cm across and weighs 7.5 lbs, and if you finish it alone in 30 minutes, you pay nothing.
That is the deal at Ramen Gojiro, the Jiro-style ramen shop at 501 Dunsmuir Street, which runs its Giga Mori Ramen Challenge again on September 26.
The shop is open 11:30 am to 10 pm that day, with last call at 9:30 pm.
Finish within 30 minutes and the bowl is free.
Fail, and it costs $59.
Only one participant per bowl, so no tag-teaming a friend in for the last few bites.
Clearing the noodles is not enough; the soup has to go too, and the bowl has to be empty.
Few people who took on this challenge actually finished successfully.
The shop calls the whole thing Gojiro Day, and it used to only happen once a year, but has since been sorta a monthly thing.
The bowl on that graphic is 3.4 kg, 11.8 inches wide, with a heap of bean sprouts piled up the middle.
The regular menu already has a bigger Bakamori size for people who want more of everything.
The Giga Mori is three times the size of that bowl.
Under the September post, one comment read, “I feel full just looking at it.”
Another person simply wrote that they “gave up once I saw the bean sprouts.”
You do not have to race to get in on it.
The shop says anyone not doing the challenge can order the same bowl for $59 and share it among up to three people.
The post does not mention booking or a cap on bowls, so message the shop before you go.
