A longtime Korean street food cart tucked under a staircase on North Road in Burnaby reopens for the season on October 1.
Kim’s Korean Waffles & Pancakes announced the date on Instagram, along with its hours for the new season.
“We’ve missed seeing your familiar faces and serving up your favourite Korean waffles & pancakes,” the team wrote.
The cart sits under the stairs beside Hannam Supermarket at 4501 North Road.
It’s open 11am to 6pm Monday to Thursday and 11am to 7pm on Friday and Saturday, and closed Sundays.
The cart shut down for the season on March 31, as we reported in March.
Its website promises the “Same seasons, Same location, Same hours” year after year.
The cart introduced these waffles to Canada in September 2002, and it has been run by the same person in the same spot for over 20 years.
The business started out as Kim’s Food and later became Five Loves Two Fish International, which is where the FLTF on its Instagram name comes from.
The menu is two snacks.
Bungeoppang are fish-shaped waffles baked in cast iron moulds and filled with red bean, Boston cream or mixed vegetables.
Hotteok are flat griddled pancakes made with glutinous rice flour dough, filled with brown sugar and cinnamon or a savoury vegetable mix.
The fish waffles go three for $5.
The site also warns that the brown sugar filling in the hotteok is “often very hot,” so maybe give that first bite a second.
When we covered the cart’s closing in March 2025, Hannam Supermarket next door had started selling its own bungeoppang, and Kim’s still had the lines.
No closing date has been posted for this season, though the cart closed on March 31 in both 2025 and 2026.
Kim’s joins other recent Burnaby openings like Hei Hei Rice Roll and One Cafe.
