As someone who often works from cafes, I’m always on the lookout for spots with good coffee, plenty of plugs, and a great vibe.
Burnaby’s Mr. Mustache was a fav, especially when I was near Metrotown.
Sadly, Mr. Mustache has quietly shut down, replaced by Tealips, as recently shared by Foodology.
Mr. Mustache first opened on Vancouver’s Granville Street in 2016, initially offering just bubble tea.
Their standout drink was the tea macchiato, featuring a unique salty and sweet foam cap mixed with strong brewed tea.
They expanded to Burnaby in 2018, taking over the previous Café Joie spot.
The owners of Café Joie went on to create Café La Forêt, leaving Mr. Mustache to make its mark in Burnaby.
At this larger Burnaby location, Mr. Mustache broadened its menu to include adorable desserts like bee-shaped cheesecakes and bear-shaped passion fruit cakes, along with their lineup of bubble tea and coffee drinks.
It quickly became a popular hangout for high school and university students, one of the few cafes in the area open until 10 PM—a perfect study spot.
We noticed the listing of Mr. Mustache back in May, and by early July, the transition to Tealips was complete.
Both Mr. Mustache locations have now shuttered.
For Burnaby locals, Tealips is probably a familiar name.
This OG bubble tea spot first opened around 2010 on Kingsway by High Gate Village.
For over a decade, Tealips has offered bubble tea, waffles, sandwiches, and Korean shaved ice.
They’ve now soft-opened at the former Mr. Mustache location, bringing much of the same beloved menu from their High Gate outpost.
The good news is that this new Tealips will still remain as a good study and work spot for locals since most of the interior and hours remain the same.
Tealips will be celebrating with a BOGO promo on select drinks for a week starting July 21st.
Share this update with friends and plan your next visit to Tealips to enjoy their classic offerings in a familiar space.
