Local Fried Chicken Brand Quietly Closes East Vancouver Outpost After 4 Years

Remember back in 2022 when fried chicken joints were popping up like poke shops?

Well, it looks like Fighter Chicken, the Chinese Canadian halal fried chicken brand known for dishing out hefty portions at wallet-friendly prices, has closed its Renfrew and East Broadway location.

We noticed the signage gone and the space now being transformed into a Hi Five Chicken – another chain that’s been quietly multiplying across Metro Vancouver.

Fighter Chicken first opened the Renfrew outpost in 2021, taking over the old Riz Sushi unit.

It was their second location following their OG spot on Granville.

And while it never got the same hype as some of the bigger fried chicken names, Fighter Chicken stood out by doing more than just bird.

We’re talking crispy prawns, fried fish fillets, and other halal-friendly seafood bites—plus portion sizes that made you double-check the price tag.

No official word on when the doors actually closed.

Their Granville location is still open, so fans of their crunchy offerings can still get their fix.

As for the Renfrew area?

It’s in full glow-up mode.

Across the street, multiple developments are underway with new food spots like Boardwalk Burgers, Pizza Pizza, Pokeritto, and A&W all slated to join the scene.

So while it’s sad to see Fighter Chicken bow out, there’s no shortage of eats coming to fill the void.
