New Downtown Vancouver Korean Restaurant To Have Raw Soy Marinated Crab & Staff In Hanbok Uniforms

Last week we shared about the closure of Izakaya Gon’s in the West End.

Its vacancy for the past few months had us curious about who would take over. Well, now we know!

JINMI, who is most known for offering Korean raw soy-marinated crab (gejang), is set to transition from an online-only operation to a restaurant storefront after 4 successful years.

JINMI describes itself as offering “Korean soul food.”

JINMI told Noms Magazine that “dishes will be based on traditional Korean soy sauce (soybean paste, gochujang, soy sauce) and fusion items that could be enjoyed by all ages.”

Fans of JINMI are probably wondering – what about the gejang?

You’ll be happy to know that the soy sauce marinated crab – made with a special soy sauce with 23 ingredients – is part of JINMI’s signature menu.

This dish will also be available as a set item that includes side dishes, rice, soup, and the marinated crab itself, available exclusively during lunch hours.

However, the gejang by itself can ordered from the menu throughout the day.

The decor of JINMI pays homage to Korean tradition and history.

The interior features a wall design based on “Ilwol Obongdo,” a symbolic representation of the king’s authority and a wish for health and longevity during the Joseon Dynasty.

This choice in the interior reflects JINMI’s commitment to providing exceptional service and creating a unique dining experience for its guests.

Additionally, the staff, adorned in hanbok uniforms, and a photo zone at the entrance, will immerse diners in the traditional beauty of South Korea.

According to JINMI, they are scheduled to open doors on March 15th.

Whether you’re a long-time fan of Korean food or curious to explore, JINMI is poised to become a cherished addition to the West End’s dining landscape.
