Kingsway is about to get a new affordable noodle spot.
And it isn’t just cheap; it also offers unlimited noodles.
We spotted signs for Dao Field Noodle Shop up at 3524 Kingsway earlier this week, in the strip that also holds Happy Tree House BBQ.
The Hunan noodle shop is taking the space that Master Bao closed in early August, which took it from Love For Pho before that.
Master Bao opened there in May 2025 with $1.99 pork buns and it went dark without posting a notice.
Dao Field will be the first Vancouver location for a shop that has only existed in Richmond since spring.
It comes from the team behind Geng Shi Ji, the award-winning Hunan restaurant at Continental Shopping Centre, and it is the cheap everyday version of that kitchen.
The Richmond original opened at 8291 Westminster Highway on April 1 and sold out by its second day, closing before dinner service because the noodles were gone.
What it sells is a format Vancouver does not have much of.
You order at a self-serve kiosk, take a seat, and collect your bowl at the counter when your number is called, the way a canteen in China runs.
Bowls start at $10 and top out around $15, and every one of them lets you pick between Hunan flat rice noodles and alkaline wheat noodles.
Then there is the side counter, which is where the value actually lives.
It holds self-serve sauces and toppings you add yourself, at no charge, and the noodles themselves are refillable.
Kristen Wan, who assists at both Geng Shi Ji and Dao Field, walked us through that setup when the Richmond shop opened, and the pitch was straightforward: keep the price near ten dollars and give people somewhere to sit.
We have not been told what the Vancouver menu will carry.
The reasonable read is that it mirrors Richmond, because that is the version that emptied its kitchen in two days.
The Kingsway build is further along than the signage suggests.
The interior already looks close to finished, which usually means weeks rather than months, though no opening date has been announced.
That unit has been unkind to its last two tenants, and this one arrives with a following already built across the river.
Dao Field Vancouver joins other upcoming Vancouver spots including Danbo Express UBC, Unveil Coffee Roasters, and Como Ultramar.
