A Vancouver-born sandwich shop expanding to Asia is something you don’t see much.
Meat & Bread teased it on Instagram, asking followers, “Can you guess where our next Meat & Bread shop is opening?”
The photos answer it: an Opening Soon sign in Shanghai with “中国首店即将开业!” on it, which means the brand’s first store in China is opening soon.
No address or opening date has been shared yet.
A second line on the sign calls it the sandwich brand from Vancouver, landing in Shanghai.
In China, the shop goes by the Chinese name 觅培德.
Back home, Meat & Bread opened as a little sandwich shop on the eastern edge of Gastown in October 2010, according to Scout Magazine.
Local industry veterans Joseph Sartor, Frankie Harrington and Cord Jarvie were behind it.
Its website now lists four shops in Vancouver, on Cambie, Pender, Broadway and Robson, plus one each in Victoria, Calgary and Austin, and none in Asia so far.

Every shop carves the signature porchetta sandwich fresh to order, the brand says, and it’s $14 at the Cambie Street shop.
That’s a long way for a sandwich that started at one little Gastown shop 16 years ago.
If the news has you craving one, the Cambie Street shop is open daily from 8 am to 4 pm.
