Richmond just got a brand new bakery, and bread lovers are in for a treat.
Flour Dance Bakery has soft opened as of January 29th, bringing some artisanal loaves and creative pastries to Union Square Shopping Centre.
It is located right next door to the new HeyTea at the end of the plaza.
Now, this isn’t your typical Chinese bakery.
Flour Dance is all about the art of breadmaking.
They believe bread is a living creature that needs nutrient-rich ingredients, patience, and time to develop its full taste and texture.
Every loaf here is made with hard spring premium flour, fermented for over 16 hours, and uses only pure milk, no water added.
According to the staff, this means the loaves are softer for that reason.
Flour Dance’s selection includes a variety of loaves like Durian, Purple Rice, Original Basque Cheesecake, Coffee & Walnut, and Pork Floss with Red Bean.
It was actually the first time we’ve ever seen a basque cheesecake loaf. They even have a matcha one.
Aside from loaves, they also have ciabattas like Kale & Sausage and Kimchi & Cheese, alongside decadent tiramisu lava cubes and long cream buns.
The shop itself has a bit of a whimsical charm.
From the outside, you’ll see an oversized loaf hanging in the window, letting you know what they specialize in.
The interior keeps things minimal, with neatly packaged loaves lined up on wooden shelves and the back table.
A fun little touch we noticed was fake croissant decor situated at various areas of the store.
One specifically was a piece of bread on the ground next to the corner plant. Odd but that’s what makes this place charming.
We grabbed two loaves to go—the Original Basque Cheesecake and Pork Floss with Red Bean—and were impressed by how soft, pillowy, and not overly sweet they were.
They’re just right for the Asian palate, making them perfect for breakfast or an afternoon snack.
From what we’ve learned afterward, these were their most popular items.
We gave our colleague a piece of each as well and they gave it 2 thumbs up.
The loaves range from $8.99 to $14.99, depending on the flavour you get.
For those wanting to check it out, now’s a good time!
Flour Dance is offering 10% off all items until Sunday, February 2nd as part of their soft opening promo.
Union Square has been seeing a lot of new openings lately, with Binggo, Sweet7, and Xin Snacks still on their way.
And ofcourse many people are still waiting to see what will be taking over the previous Bubble World unit.
But if you love freshly baked bread, Flour Dance is definitely one to try out.
