If you have ever tried to find a decent independent coffee spot near Oakridge, you know the options have been slim for a while.
That is about to change. Sphere Coffee Bar is gearing up to open a location directly across from Oakridge Mall in Vancouver.
The coffee bar will be launching inside the brand-new Stratis Insurance office.

Sphere describes itself as a spot for “coffee lovers with standards,” with a focus on bold flavours and locally roasted beans.
The menu is expected to include your usual caffeinated lineup, from espresso drinks to drip, along with matcha options.
The opening has been pushed back a couple of times now. It was originally slated for March, then delayed to April, and is now targeting a May 2026 launch.
No exact date has been confirmed yet.
For anyone who frequents the Oakridge area, the lack of cafe options has been a running frustration.
Right now, the choices around Oakridge Skytrain are limited to Feast and Fallow, a Starbucks, and Elysees Cafe.

That is pretty much it for a neighbourhood that has seen so much development over the last few years.
The arrival of Sphere adds another option to the mix, and being right across from the mall puts it in a convenient spot for anyone heading to or from the Skytrain.
As for what Oakridge Mall itself will offer on the coffee front, that is still a bit of a question mark.
Word on the street is that % Arabica and a Starbucks will eventually land inside the mall, but details on seating areas and timelines remain unclear.
Sphere is positioning itself as a quality-focused alternative in a pocket of the city that has been dominated by chains and limited choices.
We will update this post when a firm opening date is announced.
