Hate to tell you, but we’ve got some bad news…
The city’s fave tea room, Paragon Tea Room, has announced they are forced to close their Vancouver Cambie location.
The tea room broke the news on Instagram on January 21st, and the reason is what you might expect.
It’s not about lease hikes (a common culprit these days) but something just as disruptive: redevelopment.
Another common business killer.
Yup, the landlord is clearing the space to make way for a new development (ofcourse 🙄).
And that means the cozy Cambie Village tea spot will have to close its doors.
Typically, there is a year or two of time before construction even begins.
But Paragon shared that they’re having to shut down the store at the end of February.
Paragon’s team shared their mixed emotions about the closure, noting how the space has been a hub for countless moments over tea.
“While we understand the nature of change, it’s hard to say goodbye to this space that has been home to so many great moments shared over tea,” they wrote.
However, they were quick to reassure tea lovers that this isn’t the end of Paragon in Vancouver.
They’re working around the clock to secure a new permanent space in the city and hinted at an interim spot to keep their Vancouver tea fans caffeinated in the meantime.
Their new-ish Richmond location—which opened last September—will remain open, along with their YVR pop-up.
If you haven’t visited the Richmond outpost yet, it offers the same stellar tea drinks as the Cambie location, like the fan-favourite Hojicha Oat Misto, alongside new partnerships like Buttercrumbs’ tea-infused mochi muffins.
Paragon’s journey has been one of resilience and reinvention. Since opening their first location in 2019, the tea room has relocated once before, moving into Cambie Village in 2022.
Despite the challenges, they’ve remained a staple in Vancouver’s tea scene, blending traditional tea culture with modern techniques like their teaspresso-based lattes.
