Richmond Malaysian Street Food Shop Quietly Closes After 1 Year

Sad news for fans of Malaysian street food in Richmond.

Malaysia Street, a well-rated Vancouver-based Malaysian spot, has quietly closed its Richmond outpost this week.

Known for its delicious and authentic Malaysian street food, Malaysia Street announced its departure in a sign displayed at their No. 3 Road storefront.

Malaysia Street, which opened its Richmond branch in February 2023, shared the unit with Chirpyhut Fried Chicken.

The quaint setup was like a mini food court, with shared open seating.

Customers could order and pay first at the stall, then pick up their food after. This allowed for the unique experience of ordering from both stalls.

The menu included a mix of savory Malaysian dishes, fancy drinks, and colourful desserts like Hainan chicken rice, roti canai, nasi lemak beef, curry laksa, mango sticky rice, pandan swiss roll, and even milk tea in a bag like how on the streets in Malaysia.

The sign thanked patrons for their support and expressed hope to see them at their main Fraser street branch in Vancouver.

The closure is a disappointment for Richmond locals who enjoyed having a taste of Malaysia closer to home.

Malaysia Street’s return to its roots in Vancouver is a reminder of the ever-changing landscape of the city’s culinary offerings.
