Continental Shopping Centre is now without its lamb spot.
Shine Valley, the Northeastern Chinese restaurant that spent more than a decade building a Richmond reputation on lamb, closed its dining room at Continental Shopping Centre on August 31.
We spotted a notice on its door announcing the closure.
“As of August 31, 2026, Shine Valley has temporarily closed our location at Continental Shopping Centre,” it reads, thanking guests “for your support over the years.”
Then it does something most closure notices never do.
It asks readers for leads on a new space, and prints a WeChat QR code to reach the owner.
No reason for the closure is given anywhere on the sign, but likely it is due to lease.
What the notice does say is that the search for a new address is already underway, and that regulars will be told as soon as it is confirmed.
For anyone who has eaten here, the loss is specific.
Shine Valley has run on lamb since 2014, and the menu is built around a single bowl.
Lamb soup is the anchor, served alongside crispy sesame cakes, shaomai, baozi and skewers off the grill.
The kitchen fried, stir-fried, steamed, stewed, grilled and boiled the same protein, which is a narrower promise than most restaurants are willing to make.
The wall outside still carries the receipts. One banner names it a Best Authentic Lamb Soup Restaurant winner at an international food culture award in 2019, and a second reads “THE BEST ASIAN FOOD IN CANADA TOP1.”
The Richmond story started small.
Shine Valley opened as a stall in the Yaohan food court before graduating to a sit-down room on Garden City Road, on the second floor of a plaza.
That Garden City unit was eventually taken over by Bite of Shune, and Shine Valley moved into Continental in 2020.
A couple of years ago it added an express counter in the Aberdeen Centre food court.
That stall is still open and still serving while the company hunts for its next dining room.
The Continental location closure follows a rough summer across the city, joining recent Richmond departures including Mikann Shabu, Banh Mi Tres Bon and Binggo.
