It is always good news when a local spot is expanding!
This is the case with Shiok, a cozy Singaporean joint that opened back in 2019 along Kingsway.
Shiok’s manager, Rachel Teo, shared with Noms Magazine that they’re really close to opening their newest New Westminster outpost dubbed Shiok Canteen.
This would mark the shop’s third location in Metro Vancouver, with a location already on Kingsway and another in Lougheed Centre’s food court.
Shiok was created by Susan Teo, a retired accounting professor turned restaurateur.
The story began with Susan’s love for the Singaporean cuisine she grew up with.
After moving away from Singapore, Susan honed her culinary skills to recreate the comforting flavours of her homeland.
According to Rachel, the new Shiok Canteen will be a cozy affair, echoing the warmth of a Singaporean home with simple decorations, warm woods, and walls adorned with photos of Singapore.
The space may seat only about 20 people, but they plan to expand with a backyard patio.
The menu at Shiok Canteen is a celebration of Singaporean heritage, featuring dishes that resonate with the heart and soul of its traditional street fare.
We offer authentic purely Singaporean food, cooked the way we grew up eating it. The dishes on our menu are drawn from the way food used to taste at all our favourite hawker centres and kopitiams in Singapore

Expect items found at their other locations like Chicken Curry Puffs, Nyonya Seafood Laksa, and Pandan Chiffon Cake.
And of course, no meal would be complete without a sip of Kopi or Teh, coffee and tea prepared in true Singaporean style.

Rachel teased that doors are set to open tentatively mid next week if things go as planned.
