Get ready for a new challenger, Vancouver!
The city is about to take a delightful, flavour-filled ride as Street Hawker, the new Southeast Asian-inspired burger and fries joint, prepares to open its doors in Mount Pleasant neighbourhood very soon.
This is some good news after some unfortunate string of closures in area.
Born out of the genius minds behind the beloved Cambie Village hotspot Potluck Hawker Eatery, Street Hawker is ready to offer an experience that shakes up the local burger scene.
Who is Behind Street Hawker?
Potluck Hawker Eatery, a well-loved dining spot in Cambie Village that started in the middle of the pandemic, has proven its knack for creating delicious Southeast Asian dishes.
Having earned the love and loyalty of locals, the Potluck team is taking a new adventure, transforming the former location of Planetary Burger into an exciting fast-casual counter-service destination.
The kitchen will be helmed by Chef Justin and Potluck Hawker Eatery’s long-time chef, Ernest Lee, who is now the culinary director of both locations.
We wanted to bring the energy of a traditional hawker stand to Main Street, but with a West Coast feel, where people can come in for a quick meal or take out, featuring delicious Southeast Asian-style handhelds and treats.

A Fusion of Flavours and Vibes
Street Hawker, set to open at 3088 Main Street, presents a refreshing take on the burger experience. The 999-square-foot location is a vibrant burst of colour, thanks to the electric purple and pink mural at its centre, masterfully created by graffiti muralist Aime Milot.
This mural isn’t the only eye-catching feature.
From the stickers on the boxes to the basket liners and even the choice of wallpaper in the bathroom, the energetic vibe of Street Hawker’s 90s old-school video game branding reverberates throughout, thanks to the keen eye for detail of local designer Graeme Jack.
A Delectable Peek at the Menu
The innovative spirit of Street Hawker isn’t just reflected in its aesthetics. It extends to their menu which offers a unique blend of flavours inspired by Southeast Asia.
The main attractions on the menu are their burgers.
Their signature burger, The Shrimp Mac, features double beef patties, crispy shrimp toast, mango mustard, pickled mustard greens, and lettuce on a soft potato roll. According to the Street Hawker team, this is their spin on the Big Mac.
Their smashed burgers, made with Two Rivers beef and served on a griddled potato roll, are sure to be crowd-pleasers.
You’ll also find two fried chicken sandwiches for those who love the bird. One is the Egg Yolk Flame, which has a flame-seared salted egg yolk and cheese, and the General Tao crusher, which is for the spicy fans with its hot mala caramel sauce.
While the burgers are the stars of the show, there’s a whole ensemble of menu items waiting to be explored.
If you’re familiar with the thicc cut fries at Potluck, you’ll be right at home here. The dirty hawker fries comes loaded with cheese and chili sauce, pork floss, pickled mustard stems and herbs.
Of course, no burger and fries experience is complete without milkshakes. Street Hawker will offer both dairy and non-dairy shakes, featuring classic Southeast Asian flavours like ube, mango, and Milo, a popular malted chocolate drink. Yum!
Don’t forget to try the Street Hawker Iced Tea or craft soda for a refreshing complement to your meal.
