It looks like Richmond’s Alexandra Road just lost another food spot.

Ban Bu Xian Szechuan Cuisine has quietly shuttered its doors, and if you’ve passed by recently, you may have noticed the signage is already gone.

In its place, we spotted a new sign for an incoming dumpling chain from Shanghai making its first BC debut right here in Richmond.

According to Google, Ban Bu Xian’s Alexandra outpost is marked as Permanently Closed, with the most recent review dated four months ago.

And from our research, this outpost opened around 3 years ago and seemed to have closed late last year.

Ban Bu Xian was known for its Szechuan and Jianghu-style dishes, served in a traditional ancient Chinese-themed space.

On the menu a heavy hit of that iconic numbing Szechuan spice.

Popular dishes included Spicy Chicken with Peanuts, Szechuan Boiled Fish, Mapo Tofu, and Spicy Fried Chicken – the kind of heat that made your mouth buzz and your brain happy.

Luckily, Ban Bu Xian fans still have options.

Their locations on Kingsway, Richmond’s Union Square, and Robson Street are all still up and running, so you don’t have to say goodbye just yet.

As for the incoming tenant?

Yang’s Dumpling is one to watch.

Known in Shanghai for their pan-fried soup dumplings, this upcoming location is set to be their first BC outpost and we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for an opening date.
