It’s always tough to see a beloved neighbourhood spot go.
And the closing of Estratto Coffee Shop in Mount Pleasant is no exception.
This small but mighty coffee shop, tucked away on East 5th Avenue, has been a community favourite since it opened back in March 2024.
Taking over the space that was once home to L’Atelier Patisserie, Estratto quickly gained a loyal following for its exceptional coffee and intimate charm.
Owner Simone, basically a one-man operation, brought his extensive experience in the coffee industry to create what many customers have called the closest thing to true Italian-quality coffee in Vancouver.
Simone not only operated the shop but also roasted all of the coffee beans locally.
This dedication to quality was reflected in every cup served, whether it was a cortado, flat white, or latte—all of which garnered high praise from customers.
Estratto’s attention to detail and passion earned it a stellar 4.9-star rating on Google, with reviews celebrating Simone’s friendliness and the exceptional coffee experience.
However, on December 8th, Simone took to Estratto’s Instagram to announce that the coffee shop’s time at 260 E 5th Ave would come to an end on December 15th.
In his heartfelt post, he shared that the shop’s sublease was ending, and the new leaseholder had chosen not to keep Estratto in the space.
Despite this, Simone emphasized that this isn’t a goodbye but a “see you soon,” as he works hard to find a new way to stay in the Mount Pleasant community he loves so much.
For now, Estratto’s doors remain open until December 15th, and Simone invites everyone to come by for one last coffee, a smile, and to share memories.
It’s a bittersweet farewell for a coffee shop that brought so much warmth and excellence to the neighborhood in its short time.
While Estratto may be closing this chapter, we’re hopeful it’s just the beginning of another.
Locals will surely be waiting with open arms for Simone’s next venture.
