Downtown Vancouver Croissant Cafe Quietly Closes After 14 Years

In a city where croissant cafes pop up like new bubble tea joints, staying power is no small feat.

And sadly, it looks like one of Downtown Vancouver’s longtime buttery OGs has quietly shut down after 14 years of operation.

Earlier this month, we noticed that Footo Croissant in Yaletown was all covered up with a notice posted on the window revealing what’s next.

With no announcement on their social media or website, it is one of those quiet closures.

Footo (pronounced Fu-toh, for those who’ve been internally debating it for a decade) was a local spot that lived up to its acronym: Fresh Out Of The Oven.

They specialized in handmade artisan croissants, croissant sandwiches, and espresso drinks—all made on-site, from scratch, every single day.

They first opened in 2011 on Homer Street before moving to their most recent home along Hamilton Street, tucked outside the Robson Suite Hotel.

Over the years, they built a loyal following for their flaky, golden creations.

We’re talking almond croissants, cheese-stuffed croissants, and the glorious maple bacon one that basically felt like breakfast and dessert had a delicious baby.

And let’s not forget the croissant sandwiches—especially that smoked salmon Benedict and the classic scrambled egg, ham, and cheese combo.

Their space is now under construction for something new called Dulcey, which has already taken over Footo’s Google business listing.

No word yet on what Dulcey will be serving, but here’s hoping it brings something just as buttery and crave-worthy.

Footo Croissant now joins Helka Cafe, Keto Caveman, and Babatang as the recent closures in Downtown Vancouver.
