The restaurant industry is one of the hardest in the world.
Its low margins, high turnover, and grueling work schedules make it tough even for the best to survive.
And sadly, even beloved award-winning spots aren’t immune.
Fraser Street’s Say Mercy, known for its unique fusion of American BBQ and Italian cuisine, has announced it will close its doors for good on November 2nd.
The news was shared on their Instagram on October 14th, and it came as a shock to many loyal patrons.
Say Mercy opened back in 2020, just 8 weeks before everything went into lockdown.
Despite the challenges of opening right a bit before the pandemic, the team not only survived but thrived, earning their third consecutive MICHELIN Bib Gourmand award earlier this month.
Say Mercy was born out of Collective Goods Hospitality Group’s dream to create restaurants that the 3 founders themselves would love to dine in.
The group, led by Chef Sean Reeve, Katie Jameson, and Andrew Jameson, is behind some of Vancouver’s most creative dining concepts.
They first built The Mackenzie Room in 2015, and in 2020, their love for Southern cooking and Italian influences led to the opening of Say Mercy—a bold combination that quickly won over Vancouver’s culinary community.
Throughout their journey, the team’s dedication to community never wavered.
During the pandemic, Say Mercy launched the STAFF MEAL initiative, providing wholesome meals to those in need and supporting the Vancouver Food Bank.
Known for its warm and cozy atmosphere, inventive dishes, and unforgettable “Jesus Take The Wheel” tasting menu, Say Mercy became a neighbourhood fav, not just for its incredible food but for the community spirit it fostered.
Tthe restaurant represented the best of what the local dining scene could offer.
It was a true blend of passion, creativity, and heart.
If you haven’t had the chance to experience Say Mercy’s creative blend of flavors, now is your chance.
They will be serving their last meals until November 2nd.
