No one saw this coming…

Especially considering how it is one of the most highly decorated restaurants in the city.

On May 6th, Vancouver Magazine hosted the 35th Vancouver Restaurant Awards, where Cioppino’s won best upscale Italian restaurant.

In 2022, Cioppino’s was named one of the Best Italian restaurants outside of Italy.

With its high-end menu and visits from high-profile individuals like Anthony Bourdain, Jason Momoa, and Drake, the restaurant cemented its reputation as a culinary heavyweight.

You’d think things would be all happy and rainbows as Chef & Owner Giuseppe “Pino” Posteraro took the podium to say a few words.

But stunning the crowd was Chef Pino announcing the bittersweet news that Cioppino’s is closing its doors at the end of the year after 25 years of service.

Chef Pino shared that the lease will be done for the current Yaletown location, indicating that they won’t be renewing.

However, he went on to share: “You aren’t rid of me…when one door closes, another opens.”

This hints that Cioppino’s may be returning at another location but the timeline is unclear.

The announcement came as a shock to many, but you will still have until December 23rd to enjoy his handmade pastas and meticulously prepared seafood dishes.
