If you remember, we shared in early January 2026 about how Ông Bà was expanding to Coquitlam’s Henderson Place, after a local spotted coming soon signage at the old Deer Garden unit.
Turns out that family run Vietnamese spot has instead closed its longtime West End location as of April 30, 2026 and is reopening this summer at Henderson Place.
“We wanted to build a place where people can slow down, gather around the table, and create memories together,” co-owner Viet said in the announcement.

“A space filled with warmth, conversation, and the feeling of being cared for.”
Ông Bà opened on Denman Street in 2016, run by Viet and his wife Quynh. The name means “grandparents” in Vietnamese, and the restaurant was built as a tribute to Viet’s parents, known to the family as Bố and Mẹ.
Their story is the spine of the restaurant.
Viet’s parents escaped Vietnam in a small sailboat with their four young children and spent 75 days at sea before reaching a refugee camp in Hong Kong.
After resettling in Canada, they went on to sponsor hundreds of refugee families to come to the country.
Mẹ, who taught Quynh the recipes that became the menu, later passed away from leukemia, which was part of the reason the family opened the restaurant in the first place.
The Coquitlam location is built around that backstory but scaled up.

More tables, a full bar, and an expanded menu that lets more of Mẹ’s recipes come to life.
Even the restaurant’s logo has been redrawn. The original showed Bố and Mẹ on a bicycle, a reference to their escape.
The new one shows them later in life, standing together.
A specific opening date for the Coquitlam flagship has not been announced beyond this summer.

Henderson Place sits in central Coquitlam, putting the restaurant in a much higher foot-traffic neighbourhood than the Denman Street block they grew up on.
The Denman Street storefront has not been left empty.

Another family-run Vietnamese operator, S.A.M.E, has taken over the unit and is running the same menu that Ông Bà had been serving in the West End.
It is a different operator, not an Ông Bà location, but for longtime regulars it means the food itself is not disappearing from the block.
We will share the exact opening date and a full menu rundown closer to launch.
