Legendary Thai Tea Brand Opens First Vancouver Cafe Outpost [FIRST LOOK]

Vancouver’s most anticipated Thai tea shop is finally here, and we already got a taste.

ChaTraMue, Thailand’s legendary Thai tea brand, is officially soft opening on along West Broadway on Friday, February 13 at 12 PM.

The brand is celebrating with an opening week deal where you can grab two Original Thai Teas or two Milk Green Teas for $9.99, compared to $6.50 each at the regular price.

We were invited to a friends and family event ahead of the public opening and got an early look at the space, the menu, and a chance to try several items.

ChaTraMue (which translates to “Number One Brand” in Thai) was founded in 1945 and operates more than 350 stores globally.

This is their first location in Western Canada and their second in the country after Toronto’s Spadina Avenue shop, which opened in August 2025.

Last year we reported how the Vancouver cafe is led by Earth Setsawat, a UBC grad who helped bring the brand to the West Coast.

“My first Cha Tra Mue Thai Tea was from a street vendor in Bangkok,” Earth told Noms Magazine.

“He poured it from one jug to another from almost an arm’s length up. It was like a little tea performance. I took one sip and thought, wow. That memory is what I want to recreate here in Vancouver.”

The space is compact with about 16 seats, round wooden tables, and rattan-backed chairs with a warm, clean feel.

You can order through self-order kiosks or at the counter.

There is a large mirror beside the entrance, with its iconic red tea cans lining the shelves around it.

The soft opening menu includes their Original series at $6.50, a Rose Tea Series at $7.00, a Thai Tea Slushy at $7.50, and Soft Serve at $6.50, with toppings like Brown Sugar Boba for $0.85 each.

You can control the sweetness level from 0 to 130 per cent.

As recommended by staff, we went with 70 per cent and it was just right.

We tried the Original Thai Tea with brown sugar pearls, the Rose Milk Tea, and the Thai Tea Soft Serve.

The Original Thai Tea is the clear star and it is easy to see why it is their legendary item.

The Thai tea flavour is bold and strong, and the brown sugar pearls had a good amount of QQ chew to them.

The Rose Milk Tea comes in a pretty floral cup and has a strong fragrant rose flavour and aroma.

If you are not a fan of rose, you will probably want to skip this one.

The Thai Tea Soft Serve is also a solid choice, though the portion was on the smaller side.

The taste was there though, with that same distinct ChaTraMue Thai tea flavour coming through.

At the time of our visit, the green tea and Thai tea mix soft serve was not available yet.

The team also teased Noms Magazine that they have been scouting Metro Vancouver for a second location.

But where and when that would come to fruition is still unknown.

They also shared that the menu will also be updated every couple of months or so, to keep things fresh.

If you are a fan of Thai tea, you’ll definitely want to check out ChaTraMue.
