The Gastown Greek spot with a 4.8-star rating is about to double its footprint.
Skewers Souvlaki Pita Bar is officially opening its second location at 1851 Commercial Drive on Sunday, March 8 at 11:00 a.m.
We first reported on the upcoming expansion when signs were spotted at the former Indo Chinese Street Wok unit earlier this year.
Now it is confirmed, and the owner shared the details with Noms Magazine first.
Owner Kulwant Dulay said the neighbourhood meant everything to him when choosing a second location.
“I chose Commercial Drive because of the community,” he said. “It’s such a vibrant area with a mix of cultures, and people here really support local businesses.”
His goal is straightforward: become a neighbourhood favourite where people can stop in and grab a great gyro.
For anyone who has been to the Gastown location, you already know what to expect.
Dulay confirmed that the Commercial Drive menu is an exact copy of what they serve at their Gastown location.
“I wanted our downtown regulars to walk in and feel like nothing changed,” he said.
“If you love the food at Gastown, you’ll get the exact same experience on Commercial Drive.”
That means the same souvlaki wraps, sizzling skewers, platters, and the popular Mix Grill Platter with chicken souvlaki, lamb souvlaki, grilled pork, hand-cut fries, warm pita bread, Greek salad, and their signature tzatziki.
The original Gastown location opened in late 2021 and has quietly built a loyal following.
Dulay took over ownership in early 2024, bringing over 25 years of experience from West Coast restaurants including Quattro in Whistler and Ya-Ya’s Oyster Bar in Horseshoe Bay.
Since then, the restaurant has held onto its 4.8-star Google rating, with reviewers consistently calling out the generous portions and friendly staff.
“If you look through our reviews, people often mention our kind staff and our generous portions,” Dulay said.
“That’s something I’m really proud of.”
Skewers Souvlaki joins a wave of food spots that have recently opened across Vancouver including Kam Wai Legacy, C Market Coffee Main Street, and Aburi Market downtown.
