Another food spot has quietly disappeared from one of Burnaby’s biggest malls.
Bella Gelateria has announced the permanent closure of its location at the Amazing Brentwood, marking the end of a roughly three-year run.
“Due to circumstances related to our tenancy at the mall, we unfortunately weren’t able to reach an agreement that would allow us to continue operating there,” the team wrote in an Instagram post.
The Brentwood location opened in 2023 but was tucked away in a corner of the mall that saw comparatively little foot traffic compared to other areas.
That positioning likely made it harder for the shop to pull in the kind of walk-by traffic that a gelato business relies on, especially in a mall setting where visibility and convenience are everything.
For a brand that thrives on impulse visits and foot traffic, the location was always going to be a challenge.
Comments on the announcement show locals expressing disappointment, with some noting they lived nearby and will miss the convenience of having a gelato shop in the neighbourhood.
One commenter wrote, “I will miss this location for sure, as I do live around the neighborhood.”
Bella Gelateria is one of Vancouver’s most recognized gelato brands, founded in 2010 by gelato maestro James Coleridge, who has won multiple international awards for his small-batch gelato.
The brand still operates four other locations across Metro Vancouver, including shops on Davie Street, Howe Street, and Robson Street in Vancouver, as well as a spot at Metrotown in Burnaby.
The closure is not an isolated event at the Amazing Brentwood.
Earlier this week, Saboten also announced the closure of its stall at the mall’s TABLES food court, making Bella Gelateria the second food tenant to exit the property in a matter of weeks.
Bella Gelateria Brentwood now joins a growing list of recently closed food spots in Burnaby, including American Cheesesteak Co., Green Basil Thai, and Lattea Crystal Mall.
