Vancouver’s Newest Ice Cream Shop Just Quietly Opened in Kitsilano

The Sunshine Coast ice cream trailer that built a following through farmers markets and small-batch scoops has officially landed in Vancouver.

Little Spoons Ice Cream soft opened its first permanent Vancouver storefront on April 16 in Kitsilano’s Greektown strip, taking over the former Tachingon unit on West Broadway.

We stopped by to check it out and the space is warm, bright, and thoughtfully designed.

There is a colourful mural on the wall, handmade ceramic cups lining the shelves, and a clean, modern counter where you can watch them scoop.

You’re not going to find generic vanilla or strawberry ice cream here.

The flavour lineup includes Strawberry Strawberry, Earl Grey Lemon Curd, Tiger Tail (orange and anise), Brown Sugar Vanilla, Higgeldy Piggeldy (vanilla, brownies, caramel, and gold), Hokey Pokey (toffee and honeycomb), Raspberry Lemonade, Sea Salted Caramel, and Peanut Butter Fudge Ribbon.

You’ll also find several different ice cream sandwiches in the display case.

We went with the Strawberry Strawberry and the Earl Grey Lemon Curd in a local waffle cone.

Cone and cup options are straightforward. A local waffle, cake cone, or cup comes at no extra charge.

If you want to upgrade, there is a charcoal cone, a gluten-free cone, or an olive oil orange zest cone for a bit extra.

They also have a “Take Home Treats” fridge near the entrance stocked with pints if you want to bring some back.

And on the shelves, you will notice a collection of handmade ceramic cups on display, which adds a nice artisan touch to the whole vibe.

If you’re hoping to stay awhile, you sadly can’t. Inside, there are about 3 window stool seats only.

For those unfamiliar with Little Spoons, the brand actually started in Vancouver back in 2013 under the name Brown Paper Packages, when founder Ashley began selling ice cream sandwiches and sundaes at local farmers markets and food truck festivals.

In 2020, she rebranded to Little Spoons, brought on Mira as a business partner, and moved the whole operation to Gibsons on the Sunshine Coast.

From there, they built a loyal following through small-batch, handmade ice cream using organic, local, and sustainable ingredients from BC farms and producers.

Their tagline sums it up: “From the Coast with love.”

Little Spoons now joins other recently opened food spots in Vancouver like The Waffle Co Robson, Noct Coffee, and Takogun.
