Crystal Mall’s food court is about to lose one of its longest-running stalls.
Kingspark Good Food, the Hong Kong style cafe stall that has been a fixture in the Burnaby food court for 18 years, is closing on June 7.
The team shared the news on Red Note, saying the boss is finally retiring.
The post thanked customers for their support over the past eighteen years, whether they liked the food or not, and called it a hard goodbye.
In the replies, the stall added more context, telling commenters that the owner’s health issues are preventing him from continuing the work.
There is a farewell deal to go with the news.
From now until the final day on June 7, Kingspark is running its second item at half price, excluding holidays.
For close to twenty years the stall offered that everyday Hong Kong cafe breakfast, pork chop with rice, and noodle dishes HKers were familiar with.
It also sounds like the stall will not sit empty for long.
Another Hong Kong style food spot is set to take over the unit, though it is expected to offer something different from what Kingspark did.
The closure is a reminder of how competitive Crystal Mall has become.
The Burnaby food court has long been one of the busiest in the region, and the competition inside is fierce, with no apparent restrictions on stalls duplicating each other’s offerings.
That pressure ramped up recently when One Cafe, the popular Richmond Hong Kong style cafe stall, moved into Crystal Mall and immediately brought a lineup with it.
Its arrival meant there were suddenly four stalls serving the same standard Hong Kong style cafe breakfast and baked items under one roof.
For longtime regulars, though, this one stings less about the competition and more about losing a familiar face after 18 years.
Kingspark Good Food joins other recently closed Burnaby food spots, including Roadside Spicy Pot, Lattea at Crystal Mall, and Soon Coffee at Amazing Brentwood.
