Some of the people behind Vancouver’s most loved Italian restaurants are about to add one more name to the table.
This time, it is a small, pasta-focused osteria sliding into a Yaletown storefront that quietly went dark not long ago.
Rosalia Osteria is set to open this late summer at 1127 Mainland Street, the same Yaletown address that previously housed the original Robba Da Matti.
It comes from brothers Dom and Frank Morra, the duo behind Via Tevere, Dante Italian Sandwich, Don’t Argue Pizza, and Straight Outta Brooklyn.
The new spot is named after their grandmother Rosalia, and the menu leans hard into the kind of cooking that name promises.
House-made pasta anchors every service, built around the warmth of a Sunday dinner at Nonna’s table.
Around the pasta sits a supporting cast of shareable antipasti, fresh seasonal salads, classic Italian desserts, and a curated drinks program.
The Morras describe it as a celebration of Italian tradition, pulling from authentic staples, Italian-American classics, and old family recipes.
The space itself is small on purpose.
At 600 sq.ft, the osteria seats just 33 people, with 13 indoors and another 20 out on a garden-inspired courtyard patio.
That means the patio actually holds more seats than the dining room, a sun-soaked setup built for slow summer evenings.
The spot is being built for long, slow evenings rather than quick turnover, which tracks with the hours.
Rosalia plans to run seven days a week, from 4pm until late.
For the Morra brothers, this is a continuation of their growing dominance.
They have spent years building a following on Via Tevere’s Neapolitan pizza and the sandwiches at Dante, and Rosalia narrows that focus down to one thing done well, a good plate of pasta.
The location also keeps a little Italian on the block, filling the Yaletown space Robba Da Matti left behind with a new operator and a new name.
An exact opening date has not been set beyond late summer, and the full menu has not been released yet.
