There’s going to be a new lunch option coming to the Oakridge area.
We spotted a Chipotle sign now mounted at 5770 Cambie Street, on the ground floor of the new Polygon towers.
That puts it directly across from Oakridge Park and the Oakridge-41st SkyTrain station.
Since Oakridge Park opened in May, the conversation about eating there has been dominated by what a meal costs at its marquee food hall.
And with the lack of a normal food court in the mall, many have been wondering what affordable options would be around here.
Well, Chipotle sorta fits that gap.
The unit is not a small one either.
The retail space at 5770 Cambie has been listed at 2,336 square feet, which is a full-size restaurant footprint with room for real seating rather than a grab-and-go counter.
At an intersection that now feeds a mall, a SkyTrain station, and 213 new homes in the two towers above, that seating will get used.
Inside, the work has barely started.
Through the glass the unit is still a shell, with construction fencing and caution tape wrapped around the corner and the interior stripped back to bare floor.
Chipotle runs the build-your-own burrito and bowl line that most people can order from without reading anything.
You pick a format, then walk the counter naming rice, beans, protein, salsa, and the rest while it gets assembled in front of you.
The chain has been open in Canada for years and now lists 22 locations across British Columbia.
Six of those already carry a Vancouver address, including Kitsilano, Fairview, Robson Square, East Robson, Davie Street, and UBC.
The opening date has not been announced.
Based on how early the interior work looks, this is more likely to be a late-year opening than a summer one.
Chipotle Oakridge joins the list of other upcoming Vancouver food spots like % Arabica at Oakridge Park, Krave Kulture in Coal Harbour, and Earnest Ice Cream in Granville Island.
