Two storefronts on the same block of West Pender are dark right now, and neither has a name attached to what comes next.
Kim House, the Asian fusion room on the corner of West Pender and Seymour, has quietly closed.
We walked past the unit in late August and found the front completely covered.
The commercial listing for the space has since been deactivated.
Nobody has said who is taking it over.
We covered that listing in October 2025, when the room was on the market.
The listing pitched the space as something that “could be converted to another food or beverage concept with a simple menu,” which is the sort of line that tells you the seller already knew the room was the asset, not the restaurant.
Ten months later, the paper is on the glass.
Kim House ran a menu most downtown lunch crowds could recite: pho, banh mi, signature rolls, and combo plates, with drinks on the side.
It worked long enough to put a couple of years on the door, in a unit that has turned over several times in the last six years.
A few doors down at 529 West Pender, the Korean room that operated as Cham Mani has been quietly closed for months, and nothing has replaced it either.
Downtown’s recovery is uneven street by street, and West Pender is one of the blocks still waiting for its turn.
