The popular mango drink spot with a cult following is landing in Coquitlam.
A Noms Mag community member (linaphotostory) spotted the new signage for MACU Tea, noting the shop sits only steps from Coquitlam Centre and is taking over the Miracle Waffle and SandiEgg location.
It marks the first Coquitlam outpost for the Taiwanese bubble tea chain, and it lands right after the brand opened its North Road location in Burnaby.
No opening date has been announced.
For anyone who has not followed the saga, MACU Tea has had a strange year in Metro Vancouver.
The brand was founded in 2008 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, and grew to more than 300 stores by building its menu around fresh fruit tea instead of milk tea.
Its calling card is what it calls drinking dessert, a 2019 line of layered drinks like the Mango Pomelo Sago 2.0 and the Grape Cheese tea that arrive loaded with toppings.
In Metro Vancouver, that translated into HUGE mango season lineups.
The Richmond store on Capstan Way opened in April 2023 as the brand’s first North American location, and Burnaby and Robson shops followed.
Then all three closed within weeks of each other.
Burnaby and Robson went dark in February 2026, and the Richmond Capstan shop closed in March.
The franchisee behind those three reopened them under a new name, Alfa Tea, with a near identical mango-forward menu that earned it the MACU dupe label from locals.
MACU itself never left.
Its Kerrisdale shop stayed open under a separate franchisee, and in May the brand announced a North Road shop in Burnaby under yet another operator.
“The North Road location represents a vital chapter in our journey within British Columbia,” the brand said at the time.
That Burnaby shop is now open, and Coquitlam is the next stop.
So the block has a closed waffle shop wearing a bubble tea sign, and no date on when the mango drinks start pouring.
MACU Tea Coquitlam joins the list of upcoming food spots in Metro Vancouver like Lai San Wan Noodles in Richmond, Ramen Danbo Yaletown, and Fresh St. Market Hastings.
