A Toronto Irish pub is coming to Vancouver’s Granville Street, taking over the old Movieland Arcade unit.
We spotted coming soon signs for Gibbons Irish Pub at 906 Granville Street, in the middle of the Entertainment District.
It will be the pub’s first spot in Vancouver.
Its website lists just one other location, on Duncan Street in Toronto.
No opening date has been announced, and the site only says the pub is “opening our doors soon.”
A Join Our Team poster is up by the door, and the pub is hiring for the whole operation, from a general manager and a sous chef to bartenders and dishwashers.
The unit was home to Movieland Arcade for decades.
The Granville Street arcade was known for its pinball and video games, and its vintage machines went up for auction in 2024.
Gibbons is part of The MRG Group, the company behind the Vogue Theatre, which sits on the same block at 918 Granville.
MRG’s founder and president is Matthew Gibbons, and its venues already include Dublin Calling, another pub on Granville Street, plus Par-Tee Putt.
That will make two MRG pubs on Granville once this one opens.
The Vancouver page keeps the pitch short: “Big pours. Bigger screens. A room a little too good-looking to just be here for the wings.”
The Toronto pub gives a sense of the format.
It promises “solid pours, honest food, and a welcoming room,” and it has a semi-private nook called The Snug for groups of six or more and self-pour Guinness tables for groups of eight or more.
Its Toronto events calendar leans hard on game nights, with NFL watch parties on Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays, UFC fight nights and a Leafs home opener party on a 20-foot screen.
Every Sunday there’s a classic Sunday roast, and the rest of the week runs trivia nights, darts tournaments and live music on Wednesdays.
This football season, an NFL season pass there gets you NFL RedZone every Sunday, a free 16oz Bud and all-you-can-eat nachos.
Whether any of that makes the trip west hasn’t been announced yet
(but likely).
Until there’s a date, the website’s Vancouver page is the place to watch, and it’s also where the job postings live.
Gibbons Irish Pub joins other upcoming Vancouver spots like Bento Cafe in Kerrisdale, Nuan Nuan Beef Noodle House in the West End and Ramen Danbo in Yaletown.
