Downtown Vancouver’s Sister-Run Cafe Announces Extension To End of 2026

A downtown Vancouver cafe run by two sisters is staying open through the end of 2026.

Unscripted Coffee, on Granville Street near Waterfront Station, announced the extension on Instagram, days before its original term was set to run out.

Behind it are sisters Angel and Sara Dee, who had never run a food business before. Angel was 17 when we first wrote about the cafe in July.

They soft opened on July 31 in the former BrainStation space at 455 Granville Street.

One detail they hadn’t shared widely was that the cafe was only supposed to be a short-term pop-up.

In a video posted October 1, the sisters said the term was three months and that they were supposed to be out in two weeks.

The caption said they were “definitely not ready to say goodbye on Oct 14” and that “things are brewing behind the scenes.”

The same video shared the cafe’s first two months in numbers: 17,463 drinks, 10,213 customers, and 7,704 matcha lattes.

That’s matcha in roughly four of every ten drinks they poured.

The follow-up post said they had originally planned to be a pop-up “for the summer,” and that after some thinking, they’d decided to extend and stay “for the rest of 2026.”

They wrote that the next few months will be “full of more challenges, but also tons more learning experiences, and chances to make an impact in the community.”

They haven’t said what happens after December.

If you haven’t been yet, the drink people talk about is the sweet corn matcha latte.

When we visited in August, the corn wasn’t a garnish.

It was the base, sweet and starchy under the matcha, and it drank closer to a corn dessert than to coffee.

The espresso comes from Pallet Coffee Roasters, the pastries come in from Freya and To Live For, and a whiteboard lets customers vote with tally marks on what the menu does next.

So the cafe that was meant to wrap up mid-October now has about two and a half more months on Granville Street, with any news on 2027 still to come.

Unscripted Coffee joins other recent downtown Vancouver openings like Läderach, Zab Bite and Honest to Pete.
