Vancouver’s West End area has seen yet another change in its food scene.
This time involving the closure of the popular Taiwanese bubble tea chain, Baroness, along Denman Street.
Known for being one of the first in Vancouver to offer oat milk as an option, Baroness initially opened its West Broadway location in 2019
It quickly gained a loyal following and high ratings(4.7 stars) for their brown sugar bubble tea and highly praised pearls.
In March 2023, they brought their signature drinks to Denman Street, sharing a quirky space with an e-bike rental and sales shop.
This gave it an interesting setup for those wanting a drink before (or after) heading out for a ride around the nearby Stanley Park Seawall.
However, we’ve recently spotted a new sign signaling a switch in branding at the Denman location.
Baroness has quietly transformed into Frost n Foam Bubble Tea as of August 2024.
This new spot seems to be more focused on foam-topped bubble teas.
The closure of Baroness on Denman marks a new phase in the bubble tea landscape in Metro Vancouver.
Much like other Taiwanese chains such as YiFang and Machi Machi, which have recently shut down all of their BC locations, it seems the bubble tea craze may be reaching a breaking point.
Baroness fans can still visit their West Broadway location to get their Thai Milk Tea and Brown Sugar bubble tea fix.
