A 4.5-star Richmond food court stall that surprised many with its kaiseki and aburi dons is suddenly gone.

Katte, the Japanese don and curry stall inside Lansdowne Centre’s food court, has quietly shut down after roughly three years in the mall.

We walked through the food court earlier in the week and found the unit cleared out and the signage gone.

The closure appears to have happened very recently, with multiple Google reviews from April from customers who had eaten there before the lights went out.

Katte had built itself a reputation as one of the most positively reviewed stalls inside the food court.

The stall held a 4.5-star average on Google, with regulars consistently praising the kitchen for the quality and freshness it managed to pull off in a busy mall setting.

The menu leaned hard into Japanese rice bowls and curry sets.

Regulars came for the kaiseki don, the aburi don, the katsu curry, and a build your own poke bowl, with a pork cutlet set rounding out the lineup.

The stall opened roughly three years ago and quickly settled into the rotation as a reliable lunch option for office workers and shoppers in the area.

The closure is the latest in a string of recent moves at the Lansdowne Centre food court.

My Coffee shut down at the same food court back in March, taking with it one of the longer-running drink options in the room.

Meanwhile, One Cafe is gearing up to move into the former Villa Vietnamese stall, bringing a new HK-style cafe operator to the lineup.

The shuffle at Lansdowne mirrors what has been happening across most of the major Richmond food courts right now.

Operator turnover has been hitting the older mall food halls particularly hard over the past year, with stalls quietly swapping in and out faster than the malls’ directories can keep up.

There is no public word yet on what is moving into the unit or whether Katte plans to reopen at a different location in the city.

Katte joins a busy stretch of recent Richmond closures, including Golden Time BBQ, Ajishou Japanese Restaurant, and Haojiya.
