Free matcha parfaits are about to start flying out of a brand new downtown Vancouver cafe, as long as you time your visit right.
Nana’s Green Tea, the Tokyo matcha cafe known for its Kyoto-sourced green tea, is opening a second Vancouver location downtown on June 6.
The new shop sits at 869 Hornby Street, right across from Scotiabank Theatre.
To mark the opening, the cafe is giving away 300 free parfaits over its first two days.
On June 6 and 7, it will hand out free Matcha or Hojicha Shiratama Parfaits in three waves, 100 at 11 am, 100 at 4 pm, and 100 at 9 pm.
There is a limit of one per person and they go while supplies last, so the lineups will matter.
If you miss the freebies, the deals do not stop there.
From June 8 to 12, the first 100 customers at the downtown shop can grab the same parfait for $10, at 11 am and 4 pm.
The brand’s existing Vancouver location is running its own version, with a $10 parfait for the first 100 customers daily from June 6 to 12, also at 11 am and 4 pm.
For the uninitiated, the Shiratama parfait is the thing to get, a tall glass layered with matcha or hojicha soft serve and chewy shiratama mochi.
Hojicha, for the curious, is the roasted, toastier cousin of matcha, and Nana’s offers both.

Nana’s Green Tea was founded in Tokyo in 2001, built around making traditional matcha culture feel modern and approachable.
Its matcha is sourced and powdered in Kyoto, and turns up across parfaits, soft serve, roll cakes, tarts, and a full lineup of hot and iced tea.
The downtown move is also a bit of a milestone for the local operator.
The first Nana’s in Canada opened on June 6, 2018 in Kerrisdale, before relocating to its current Mount Pleasant home.
That makes this June 6 opening exactly eight years to the day since the brand first landed here.
The downtown space is not entirely uncharted either.

Nana’s is taking over part of the existing ZUBU Ramen unit on the Hornby Street side, a spot that has run as ZUBU’s downtown flagship since early 2023.
Both are run by the same local operator, Seven Leaves Tea, so a bowl of ramen and a matcha parfait now share an address.
Nana’s Green Tea Downtown joins other recently opened Vancouver food spots including Hiyori Coffee, Namba Curry, and Time Out Market Vancouver.
