A New York-style pizza shop forced off Kingsway by redevelopment last year is back with a new spot on the same street.

Straight Outta Brooklyn Pizza opened at 918 Kingsway in Vancouver on September 25.

The old shop sat at 701 Kingsway, in the plaza near Fraser, until June 2025, when the building was set for redevelopment.

That same teardown took out Ba Le’s original deli next door.

We first reported the new signs going up at 918 Kingsway in July, next to Kensington Pharmacy.

The new shop is about 900 square feet with seating for 16.

Their opening photos show a red brick wall with a steel light-up BROOKLYN sign.

Straight Outta Brooklyn comes from the same crew as some of the city’s most followed Italian spots.

That is the group behind Via Tevere, Don’t Argue Pizza, Dante Italian Sandwich, and Il Saltimbocca, with Rosalia Osteria on the way in Yaletown.

At the center of it are brothers Dom and Frank Morra, who built their name on Via Tevere’s Neapolitan pizza.

Via Tevere has spent years as one of Vancouver’s go-to Neapolitan spots, and the group has since branched into sandwiches at Dante, pies at Don’t Argue, and Italian staples at Il Saltimbocca.

Straight Outta Brooklyn is their swing at the other end of the pizza map, thin New York-style slices instead of blistered Neapolitan pies.

New York-style leans on big, foldable slices and wide, thin pies, a different animal from the puffy, charred rounds Via Tevere built its lines on.

The brand pitches itself on New York-style pizza built from signature recipes and fresh ingredients, the kind of pie meant to taste like a walk down a New York City block.

Every pie is 15 inches and cut into four XL slices, which the menu calls the quarter pie.

An Original Margherita lists at $24.50 on the brand’s menu, and the lineup runs from a Tomato Pie to Meat and Paesano pies, plus tiramisu and dips.

This is the sixth Straight Outta Brooklyn, alongside Robson, Chinatown, Gastown, Granville Island and Port Moody.

Straight Outta Brooklyn joins other recent Vancouver openings like Läderach, CoCo and TurF.
