A new Indonesian grocery and snack shop is opening on East Hastings Street in Strathcona on November 4.
It’s called Toko Convenience, and it’s at 977 East Hastings Street.
“Toko” is the Indonesian word for shop.
The team says it opened Toko “because Indonesian groceries were so hard to find in Vancouver.”
The shelves are already stocked, going by the walk-through video the shop posted on Instagram.
Sambal gets a lot of the space.
There are squeeze bottles of Sambal Asli Lampung, packets of sambal geprek and a full row of BonCabe chili sprinkles, with the Level 30 tub marked at $2.29.
The snack aisle leans on the classics.
The shop calls Kusuka “fan favourite” and carries it in seven flavours, beside stacks of Malkist crackers, Roma Kelapa cream biscuits and Garuda Pilus.
Then there’s the drinks wall.
Boxes of Tong Tji and Teh Poci tea sit across from bags of Gayo and Sidikalang arabica from AWI Coffee, a brand that prints “since 1945” on its packaging.
Noodles get their own big feature.
The shop promises a “ramen wall,” where an earlier post shows rows of Indomie and Nissin packs lined up in glass-front bins.
That same post thanks Indomie Canada for helping fill the shelves while the rest of the stock ships over from Indonesia.
It isn’t only dry goods either.
The bio also lists “ready made meals” alongside “handpicked imports,” though no menu has been shared yet.
Toko opens November 4, so that’s the day to go if you want first pick of the snack shelves.
Toko joins other upcoming Vancouver openings like Baan Lao on Granville Island, Doe Coffee at UBC and Forecast Coffee at Marine Gateway.
