The new corner tower at Joyce and Kingsway just landed its first cafe tenant.

Trees Coffee has signage up for a new location at the corner of Joyce and Kingsway, taking over a ground floor unit at the newly completed REN rental tower.

We first spotted the storefront back in April, when the brand’s logo and a “See You Soon” graphic went up on the curved corner glass facing Kingsway.

REN is a new mixed-use 80 unit rental building at 5510 Joyce Street, sitting on what was previously a 7-Eleven on the prominent Joyce-Kingsway intersection.

For now, Trees Coffee and a dental clinic are the only confirmed leased units on the ground floor.

According to the REN site, there are still two restaurant units available, which means more food neighbors could fill out the strip over the coming months.

The intersection sits on a busy stretch of Kingsway, the arterial that funnels traffic between Vancouver and Burnaby.

The brand has been on an aggressive Metro Vancouver run lately.

Trees Organic Coffee was founded in Vancouver in 1996, and now operates around 15 locations across the region, with newer cafes leaning into transit-adjacent neighbourhoods.

The chain is best known for its organic fair-trade coffee and its New York-style cheesecakes, which have built a loyal following across the city.

Earlier this spring, Trees Coffee opened a stunning new cafe at 1408 Kingsway in King Edward Village, taking over the longtime Hakim Optical unit with a forest mural, floor-to-ceiling corner windows, and curved banquette seating.

Around the same time, the brand quietly closed its Davie Village location after five years, signalling a shift away from older street-level spots and toward higher-traffic intersections.

The Joyce-Kingsway opening fits that pattern cleanly.

It will also be the brand’s second new Kingsway cafe in a matter of months, after the King Edward Village debut earlier this spring.

This block of Kingsway has been busy with changes all spring.

88 Supermarket is in the process of replacing the longtime London Drugs nearby, Namba Curry from the Oretachi team is moving into 3343 Kingsway, and Fortune Lamb Dining, the Northern Chinese lamb specialist just a few doors down, recently shut down after eight years.

No opening date, menu, or hours have been confirmed for the Joyce-Kingsway cafe yet.

Trees Coffee Joyce now joins other upcoming food spots in Vancouver, including Betsutenjin, Nana’s Green Tea Downtown, and Ramen Danbo Main.
