The low sugar, low oil Asian bakery that made the jump from Burnaby to Richmond is doubling up.
A Noms Magazine community member (jessho) spotted coming soon signs for Unique Bakery at Union Square Shopping Centre, taking over the previous DIY craft unit right beside One Cake.
This marks their second location in Richmond.
Unique Bakery confirmed the news shortly after on their Instagram.
If the name rings a bell, this is not the team’s first time around the city.
Unique Bakery originally launched in Burnaby back in 2020 with a focus on low sugar and low oil bread made using natural fermentation.
They expanded to Richmond in 2024, landing in the unit right next to Aberdeen Centre Skytrain Station that was previously home to Khaykery Bakery.
Not long after, the Burnaby location was shut down as the team decided to focus fully on the Richmond side of the business.
The menu is a big part of why the brand built a loyal following in the first place.
They offer a wide variety of items like Japanese bagels, European bread, German pretzels, and Japanese toast in flavours like pistachio, earl grey, matcha, and black sesame.
Everything is baked from scratch daily, which stands out in a plaza crowd that is usually dominated by classic Asian bakery staples.
Union Square is already stacked with bakery options, so the move is a bold one.
Unique Bakery’s health-forward angle gives it a clear lane that sets it apart from the neighbours in the plaza.
The space is still under construction with no firm opening date yet.
That has not stopped the team from rolling out a pre-opening promo for anyone who wants to try them early.
Until the soft opening, they are giving out free bread daily to a limited group of customers.
The offer is capped at 30 people per day, one per person, with selected items excluded.
To claim it, you visit the storefront, take a photo of the hoarding, then post it on Instagram, TikTok, or Xiaohongshu while tagging @uniquebakeryca.
After that, you DM the account to receive a redemption code to bring in store.
The team framed the expansion as a milestone moment, describing the journey from baking at home to now opening their second store.
