In the quiet, cozy neighbourhood of Dunbar, a new family-owned restaurant has opened its doors.

Sip Song Thai Cuisine, which just soft opened on April 15, brings Thai flavours to the local area.

The restaurant take over the previous Momo Sushi unit.

Co-Owner Gabbie Lam shares with Noms Magazine, “The owner and chef of Sip Song Thai Cuisine is my husband. He’s always had a deep passion for cooking.”

This passion led him to Bangkok, where he immersed himself in the art of Thai cuisine at a cooking school, even receiving private lessons to perfect his skills.

“He spent two years setting up this restaurant after returning to BC,” Gabbie adds.

“Our family has always loved Thailand. We used to visit several times each year before COVID,” explains Gabbie.

The choice of Dunbar for their restaurant was deliberate, seeking a neighbourhood that was “quiet and decent, not too commercial or busy.”

This aligns perfectly with the intimate and inviting atmosphere they wanted to create.

The interior of Sip Song is designed to envelop guests in warmth and comfort.

You’ll find much of the space features gold, red, and dark brown tones, dim lighting, and authentic Thai decorations.

All of this complements the cozy 800-sq,ft space which includes an open kitchen and seating for 26.

When asked about the must-try items on the menu, Gabbie shares that the dishes blend street food flair with fine dining finesse. “

Our authentic Thai Boat Noodle, Raw Prawns with Spicy Sauce, Thai Volcano Ribs, and Braised Pork Leg with Rice are must-tries. These are famous Thai street foods that we’ve fine-tuned into fine dining dishes,” she says.

Other notable menu items include Mango Sticky Rice, Thai Red Curry with Chicken, Tom Yum Soup, and Deep Fried Soft Shell Crab with Thai Dipping Sauce.

For those planning their first visit, Gabbie’s advice is simple: “Relax, enjoy, and have a great time dining in our restaurant. Enjoy the authentic Thai dishes.”
