New North-Meets-South Chinese Restaurant Opens in Burnaby’s Old Dinesty Unit

A big new Chinese restaurant serving dim sum, northern dumplings and Sichuan dishes has quietly opened in the old Dinesty unit on Burnaby’s Kingsway.

Yang’s Fook Kee 杨福记·南北汇 is now open at 4501 Kingsway #104, across from Crystal Mall, and we went in anonymously to see what it offers.

We first reported the new signs here this summer, when the windows were still papered over.

The main dining room is big and open, with wood tables lined up down the middle and booths along the side.

At the far end is an open kitchen, where you can watch the chefs working the woks and steaming dim sum.

Five private rooms sit hidden behind the bamboo dividers.

The wall behind the host stand spells out the plan in English: “From Cantonese Rice Rolls to Northern Dumplings.”

Staff hand you an iPad to browse and order from, and the menu runs long.

It covers dim sum, rice rolls, dumplings, grilled fish, congee and live seafood, plus separate sections for dishes from northern China, southern China, and Sichuan and Hunan.

One thing to know: this menu is not designed for a solo diner.

Most dishes are priced and sized for sharing, and the grilled fish with Sichuan shredded pork in garlic-chili sauce that the iPad recommends lists at $68.99.

Some sections weren’t available on our visit, including the rice rolls and congee, and staff said they don’t know when those will be ready.

We were only in for a quick snack to test things out, so we kept it to xiao long bao, siu mai and shen jian bao (pan-fried buns).

The xiao long bao and siu mai were fine in our books.

The xiao long bao had a milder taste, but both came out piping hot and juicy.

The siu mai arrived four to a bamboo steamer, their yellow wrappers open at the top around the filling.

The shen jian bao did have some issues, which we’re putting down to the soft opening process.

Dinesty Dumpling House ran in this unit from Boxing Day 2015 until it closed on December 31, 2025.

With a room this good-looking and a menu built around sharing and families, we think Yang’s Fook Kee is a decent replacement for Dinesty.

Bring a group if you want to work through the menu, and don’t count on rice rolls or congee just yet.

Yang’s Fook Kee joins other recent Burnaby openings like Hei Hei at Crystal Mall, One Cafe‘s second Crystal Mall stall and Hungry Tiger Grill.
