A New North-Meets-South Chinese Restaurant Is Moving Into Burnaby’s Old Dinesty Unit

The Kingsway corner that went dark when Dinesty served its last dumplings on New Year’s Eve has its next name on the wall.

We spotted new signage up along Kingsway in Burnaby for Yang’s Fook Kee 杨福记·南北汇, complete with a red stamp-style seal logo, and the windows are still papered while the buildout continues inside.

The unit comes with big shoes.

Dinesty Dumpling House opened there on Boxing Day 2015 as a 3,800 square foot grand dining facility, ran for a full decade as the chain’s only Burnaby outpost, and officially closed on December 31, 2025.

The soup dumpling chain still runs its full-service rooms on Robson Street and in Richmond, but its closure notice for Burnaby offered only deep regret and no reason.

We covered that goodbye when it was announced, and the question since has been who takes a dining room that size.

The answer, at least for part of the space, appears to be a private-dining play.

A construction progress video shared by Y&Y Construction, the team handling the renovation, shows the open dining area being transformed with five private VIP rooms and a noticeably more luxurious finish than the room Dinesty left behind.

That’s a buildout aimed at group dinners, celebrations, and sit-down banquets rather than a quick weeknight bite.

The name and poster inside hint at the menu direction.

It translates roughly to a north-south gathering, and the concept appears built around one bite of the South, one bite of the North: Cantonese rice rolls and dim sum on one side of the menu, northern-style dumplings and noodles on the other.

Beyond that, details are thin.

There’s no confirmed opening date, no menu, and no public pricing yet, and we’ll update when the paper comes off the windows.

Yang’s Fook Kee joins a list of incoming Burnaby names that includes Captain’s Boil Gilmore Place, Chayan Metrotown, and Cotti Coffee Metrotown.
