Parker Place’s food court has been missing a rice roll stall for a while, and that gap just got filled.
Yummy Rice Roll quietly opened earlier this week inside Richmond’s Parker Place food court, taking over the small unit right next to Icy Bar.
We had reported back in March that signage was going up for this new rice roll stall, with the unit being readied for a takeover.
Now the steam tray is running, and the rolls are coming out fresh to order.
The opening menu has four rice rolls.
Egg at $4.99, beef at $6.99, shrimp at $7.99, and bbq pork at $7.99.
The menu board also lists congee and cold noodle, but those are not available yet and will roll out later.
Here is the part that is ACTUALLY a little wild.
To place your order at Yummy Rice Roll, you walk over to Yummy Bao, which is two stalls down.
Same setup applies to the pork hock rice stall right next door, which also routes its orders through Yummy Bao.
Three stalls, one register.
It strongly suggests Yummy Bao is the parent operator behind all three, even though each storefront has its own name and sign.
We ordered the shrimp rice roll and the bbq pork rice roll, both made to order from the back.
The shrimp roll came with a generous pile of shrimp and egg tucked inside, and the rice sheet wrapped a bit thicker than expected.
Each bite carried plenty of the toasty soy sauce, with the shrimp holding a clean snap.
The bbq pork roll came with a similarly generous load of meat, but the rice sheet was visibly thinner than the shrimp one.
Side by side, that thinner sheet slid apart faster under the sauce, and the contrast in mouthfeel between the two rolls was noticeable.
A piece of lettuce is also given with each order.
The verdict? It was decent.
Not incredible, but the rolls came out warm, generously filled, and lightly sauced, enough that we would order again next time.
Consistency on the rice sheet thickness is the wrinkle worth flagging, especially for a stall this new.
Yummy Rice Roll joins a growing list of recently opened Richmond food spots, including Happy Bowl Kitchen at Empire Centre, Wo Fung Noodle Express, and Uncle.
