This one took a while to confirm, and two Noms Magazine community members are the reason we kept checking.
Back in the spring, one of them flagged that Osetra had been tagged temporarily closed on Google, and it came back online not long after.
More recently, another asked us whether we knew anything about it being closed for good.
A source close to the restaurant told us it shut down more than a month ago over a permit problem.
We walked by earlier this week and found the room essentially untouched.
Glassware still racked above the marble bar, terracotta banquettes in place, the open kitchen still stocked, a bottle or two left on the pass.
Security guards at the building told us it has looked like that for about a month.
Osetra opened on November 28, 2025 with a full press run and strong early reviews, so the collapse happened fast.
It was the first restaurant from The Key Collection, a new hospitality group that came out of the gate promising eight more venues across dining and nightlife within a year.
The 65-seat room served waffles with caviar, and it took over the space that Bar Haifa left behind after that restaurant quietly closed in 2024.
A Reddit thread from roughly two months ago is where an alleged former staff started filling in the gaps.
A commenter identifying themselves as a former server wrote that the team was given no notice and no dates, and that managers went two months without pay.
Another commenter alleged that everyone was dismissed with wages still owed for several pay periods.
What is on the public record is that permits have been a recurring problem for the group.
Its Plaza of Nations concert venue opened on Easter weekend this year before the city had approved its business licence, and the city said it was investigating work carried out without a permit, including plumbing.
The restaurant’s own website is still live, but its Instagram account has been deactivated.
